Annual General Meeting

The 23rd Annual General Meeting took place in Ottawa from June 6, 2010 to June 8, 2010.

The AGM launched with the President’s Reception on Sunday, June 6, 2010.

The Memorial Service was held in the Senate Chamber on Monday, June 7, 2010. We thank the Dominion Carillonneur, Dr. Andrea McCrady, who played a touching recital on the Peace Tower carillon preceding the ceremony. Additional information on the Memorial Service, including a list of those remembered during this year’s ceremony is available here. The Association was then honoured to host His Excellency David Jacobson, Ambassador of the United States, who spoke about the economic recovery. Speaker Kinsella and Speaker Milliken hosted a “Welcome Back to the Hill” reception and presented the Association’s Distinguished Service Award to Keith Penner. Additional information about the award and this year’s recipient is available here. Dinner followed in the Hall of Honour.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, the business meeting was held in Room 200, West Block. The President of the Association and the President of the Educational Foundation presented their annual reports, which are now available to members in good standing in the Members Only section. The Boards of Directors of the Association and the Educational Foundation were also elected during this meeting. The updated lists of members of the CAFP Board of Directors, the Educational Foundation Board of Directors and the Editorial Board are now available. Photos will soon be available in the Members Only section. Breakout discussion groups were then formed to discuss the future direction of the Association. The results of these discussions and those of the surveys sent to members in the weeks preceding the AGM will be considered by the Boards of Directors in the coming months. The meeting ended with a presentation by the Honourable Don Boudria on his recent trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he participated in a mission to assess the January 12, 2010 earthquake’s impact on the Haitian Parliament.

The next Annual General Meeting will take place in Ottawa in late May or early June 2011. Details will be posted on this website when they become available.
