The previous AGM, the 24th, took place in Ottawa from June 5, 2011 to June 7, 2011. The AGM launched with the President’s Reception on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
The Memorial Service was held in the Senate Chamber on Monday, June 6, 2011. We thank the Dominion Carillonneur, Dr. Andrea McCrady, who played a touching recital on the Peace Tower carillon preceding the ceremony. Additional information on the Memorial Service, including a list of those remembered during this year’s ceremony is available here. The Association was then honoured to host the Honourable Jim Munson, Senator, who delivered an engaging presentation about his path to the Upper Chamber and his role there. Speaker Kinsella and Speaker Scheer then hosted a reception at the Château Laurier for former parliamentarians and presented the Association’s Distinguished Service Award to Jim Hawkes. Dinner followed in the Laurier Room of the Château Laurier.
On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, the business meeting was held in the Main Hall of the Government Conference Centre. The President of the Association and the President of the Educational Foundation presented their annual reports, which are now available to members in good standing in the Members Area. The Boards of Directors of the Association and the Educational Foundation were also elected during this meeting. The updated lists of members of the CAFP Board of Directors and the Educational Foundation Board of Directors are now available. Members in good standing can now log in to view photos from the AGM. Breakout discussion groups were then formed to discuss the future direction of the Association. The results of these discussions will be considered by the Boards of Directors in the coming months. The meeting ended with a presentation by His Excellency Andrew Needs, New Zealand High Commissioner, about the impact of the February 22, 2011 earthquake which struck Christchurch, the devastation it caused and its resulting challenges.
