Educational Foundation

Its purpose is to raise funds and provide expertise, speakers and generally support the strengthening of democracy and good governance in Canada and abroad. The Association negotiates partnerships with governmental and NGOs both domestic and internal.
Editorial Internship Program: Each year four students enrolled in the journalism or communications program of a Canadian university are selected to produce the Association's magazine, Beyond the Hill.
The British Parliamentary Study Tour: In partnership with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association of the United Kingdom, this program enables Canadian students studying at Oxford University under the auspices of the Northrup Fry Society to undertake a study tour of the Parliament at Westminster.
Parliamentary Democracy Bursary: The Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians offers seven Canadian Parliamentarians’ Memorial Bursaries. These $500 bursaries help defray the cost of substitute coverage for those participants of the Teachers Institute who may otherwise not be able to attend. Four Jack Ellis Teachers Institute Bursaries are awarded annually to anglophone participants of the Teachers Institute, and three Benoît Sauvageau Teachers Institute Bursaries are awarded annually to francophone participants of the Teachers Institute.
Growing Democracy Internationally: It provides support to the democracy and governance programs of Canadian NGOs, the Canadian government, international organizations and the NGO's of other nations. It does this by making members of the CAFP available as resources to such programs, by providing their services pro bono and by covering their travel costs.
Young Canadian Participation Project: The project involves cooperation with the office of the Chief Electoral Officer and Canadian NGOs and service clubs that operate programs in secondary and post-secondary institutions designed to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of Canada's political processes and democratic institutions.
Schools Program: This program offers elementary and secondary school teachers the opportunity to invite a former parliamentarian to speak to their class about any one of a number of topics, including elections and the structure of government, the life of a member of Parliament, the legislative process and the political issues of the day.
Parliament to Campus: This program offers college and university students a chance to meet with former parliamentarians, to learn about the value of public service and involvement from men and women who have served in Parliament.
